Boat races return to lake

Nothing makes the edge of summer more apparent to me than when I start hearing boats roaring on the lake. The boats in the race this weekend are jet boats, so they go FAST! I am more of a relaxing ride on a pontoon boat kind of gal, but these high powered jet boats certainly are fun to watch!

LAKE ELSINORE ---- High-speed boat racing will return to the lake Saturday and Sunday, officials announced.

The National Jet Boat Association bills the event as "Thunder in the Channel II," building on the success of the professional drag boat races held in March at the inlet channel to Lake Elsinore.

The gates at 500 Diamond Drive open at 7 a.m. both days, with racing beginning at 7:30 a.m., according to a release from the association.

The event also features vendors selling food and refreshments, including beer and wine. The band "Wicked World" is scheduled to perform from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, the release stated.

Admission is $15 Saturday and $20 Sunday, or $30 for both days, officials said.

Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs, but pets, ice chests, food and beverages are not allowed inside the gates, officials said.
