Speaking of the Animal Shelter...

I know times are tough and so many people need help... But if you have a little extra I urge you to donate to Animal Friends of the Valley. They are a wonderful organization and bring people and animals together every day, which improves the life of both. Thank you. :)

From the AFV Website:

WE DESPERATELY NEED:

Kitty Litter
Kong Chew Toys for Dogs
Carpet for the Dogs

The economy is severely affecting donations of basic items for the animals. We had been relying heavily on corporate donations of food and litter, but they are fast drying up.

If you can help, please bring donations to the shelter or call us at 951-674-0618 to arrange for pick up.

All the animals thank you!

Animal shelter work to resume

Construction on the new animal shelter on Corydon and Mission Trail is finally going to resume this week. This is wonderful news, however, there appears to be a question now on whether or not Animal Friends of the Valley is going to be the one operating it once it's completed.

Apparently the Southwest Communities Financing Authority Board has decided they want to put it up for bid. Which basically means they want Riverside County Animal Control to run the shelter and not AFV.

AFV has taken care of the animals in this valley for 20 years and has done a FAR better job than the county animal services. In fact, it wasn't that long ago that the county shelter got in all sorts of hot water because they weren't feeding and watering the homeless pets properly if at all. It was disgusting and unforgivable how those poor animals were treated. Yet, at AFV (formerly known as LEAF) the care was outstanding... Even with much less funding than the county received.

I do NOT want the government taking over this shelter. The people at AFV have spent years raising money for this shelter and they deserve to continue their work at helping the animals here. We don't need just another government run animal shelter where money comes before animal welfare. What we need is AFV and it many volunteers who care enough about the animals to work many hard hours for no pay.

Something is very fishy about this whole thing. Why on earth would the county want to take the shelter away from AFV??? Is there some sort of conspiracy going on? Is this whole fiasco some attempt at revenge from the water district? Is there someone who is going to benefit financially from this new "deal"? Or is it simply a case of AFV not realizing that "no good deed goes unpunished"? Hopefully time will tell...
